Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 July 2026
CalixNote (“the app”, available for iOS and Android as CalixNote / CalixNotes) is a private, offline notebook. We designed it so that your content stays on your device and under your control. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data, and applies to both the iOS and Android versions.
We do not collect any data
CalixNote has no account system, no servers, and no analytics. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. The developer has no access to your notes, images, files, or any usage data.
Everything stays on your device
All content you create — notes, images, and files — is encrypted and stored locally on your phone or tablet. Encryption keys are generated on the device and held in the platform's secure key store (iOS Keychain, or Android Keystore on Android) — they never leave the device. The app functions fully offline.
On-device processing
- OCR (camera/photos): text recognition runs on-device — Apple’s Vision framework on iOS, Google ML Kit’s on-device text recognizer on Android. Images are never uploaded.
- Dictation (microphone): on iOS, speech-to-text prefers on-device processing; if your selected language has no on-device model, the audio is sent to Apple’s speech-recognition service to transcribe it. On Android, dictation uses the system speech recognizer, which for most languages/devices sends the audio to Google’s speech-recognition service to transcribe it. In both cases this is handled by the platform maker under its own privacy policy, and CalixNote itself does not store or transmit your audio.
- Read-aloud: handled by the system speech synthesizer on-device.
These permissions are optional and are requested only when you use the related feature.
Backups you control
If you choose to export a backup (.clx file), it is encrypted with a password you set (PBKDF2 + AES-256-GCM) and saved wherever you direct it. The backup never contains your private key. Exporting and where you store the file are entirely your choice.
No third parties
The app contains no third-party SDKs, advertising, or tracking technologies. It contacts no external service on its own — the only exception is the OS-level speech-recognition fallback described above, which is triggered solely when you use dictation and is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, not by CalixNote.
Children’s privacy
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
